Seed & Stake
The vampires stole the Blood Amulet back. It was the only thing keeping their leader sealed under the mountain, and in three nights he walks free. The town sent knights. None came back. So the Warden sent you: a farmer.
Not as an insult. Your family has grown Mooncrop for seven generations, and its magic has soaked in deep enough that vampires can't tell you from one of their own. You can walk right in through the manor gate at dusk. Getting back out at dawn with the amulet is the hard part, because the moment you touch it, the Count will know exactly what you are.
Your only weapon is the old story that turned out to be true: vampires count. Their minds seize on scattered things. Spill a handful of seed and he has to stop and number every kernel, out loud, hating it the whole time.
- Listen through the walls. His footsteps and muttering tell you where he is.
- Scatter moonseed to freeze him mid-stride.
- Hide in wardrobes while he counts down his ten and gives up.
- Open the right curtains before dawn. A vampire stuck counting in a sunbeam has a rough morning.
- When dawn comes, the gate opens. Take back everything he took, then take the amulet home.
Nights run about 5 minutes, and he gets faster and meaner as the sky pales.
Play with headphones! Most of this game is in what you hear.
